Super Bowl Champions Story

Minutemen in the Bayou

With the score tied 17-17 and 1 minute 21 seconds to play in Super Bowl XXXVI, New England's offense took over on its own 17 with no timeouts remaining.

In the spirit of the New England minutemen they marched down the field, marching 53 yards on six completions by Super Bowl MVP Brady and found themselves at the Ram 31 with :07 on the clock to set up Vinatieri's dramatic game-winner, and all the way into Super Bowl history with a dramatic 20-17 victory over the heavily favored Rams. Placekicker Adam Vinatieri slammed a 48-yard field goal on the final play of the game for the winning points, putting the final touches on the most amazing season in New England sports history. One of the most exciting Super Bowl finishes ever, it couldn't have been better if it was a made for TV movie. Dreams do come true for the team of destiny with an inspirational ending.

Patriots owner Bob Kraft accepted the Vince Lombardi Trophy from commissioner Paul Tagliabue and said, ''The fans of New England have been waiting 42 years. We are the world champions. At this time in our country, we are all Patriots, and tonight the Patriots are champions.''

Belichick's performance, along with defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel, and all the coaching staff was impressive.

NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue praised the Patriots' Super Bowl upset today. "Extraordinary is an overused word, but applying it to yesterday's game is not at all inappropriate," he said. World champion Tom Brady is presented the Super Bowl's Pete Rozelle MVP trophy Monday morning by NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue. The wonderboy quarterback concluded his stardust season by receiving the MVP trophy and becoming the youngest winning QB (24) in Super Bowl history. "I think our whole team is MVP," Brady said. "We have an MVT -- a Most Valuable Team." Brady is heading to Disney World today, but wishes the entire team could accompany him to The Magic Kingdom. Tuesday's victory parade begins at noon in Copley Square in Boston.

No more doubts. No more disrespect. The New England Patriots are Champions of the World!
