Hurricane Katrina Recovery on FirstGov.gov Hurricane Katrina -------------------------------------------------------------------- In a recent statement, President Bush identified two national organizations, the American Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org) and the Salvation Army (http://www.salvationarmyusa.org), which have both mobilized to care for those in need. In addition, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has developed a list, which is being continually updated, (http://www.fema.gov/news/newsrelease.fema?id=18473) and provided instructions on how to provide immediate cash donations to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina on its website. Many of these organizations identified by FEMA are also national CFC participating charities. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Information about patients evacuated from the VA medical centers in New Orleans and Gulfport. Information for veterans, the families of patients in the affected area and VA employees is available by calling 1-800-507-4571 and on the Internet at http://www.va.gov/opa/katrina -------------------------------------------------------------------- This message is being sent via the Public Affairs Office to ALL EMPLOYEES --- INFORMATION ONLY About 1,500 VA employees (included in a total of about 4,000 federal employees) are missing from areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. The new arrivals came to Massachusetts in 2 trips, one on Thursday afternoon, the other early Friday morning.The evacuees were met by emergency personnel who processed them and evaluated their health and needs. The storm victims will stay at Camp Edwards for up to 2 months. Dormitory-style rooms have been set up and items including toys, books and toiletries are on hand to make the victims feel more at home. Governor Romney said many of the victims came to Camp Edwards directly from flood-ravaged New Orleans. -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
