Courtesy of NFL.com DEFENSE: LB TEDY BRUSCHI, NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS New England's Bruschi played a key role in helping the Patriots win their seventh-consecutive playoff game as the club stymied the Colts, 20-3, in Gillette Stadium. Bruschi made eight tackles, forced a fumble and recovered two more as the Patriots limited the NFL's top-scoring offense to three points to advance to their third AFC Championship Game in the past four years. Four of Bruschi's eight tackles were within three yards of the line of scrimmage. Perhaps Bruschi's biggest play came with 3:19 remaining in the first half while the Patriots nursed a 6-0 lead. On the eighth play of an Indianapolis drive, the Colts faced 2nd down and 17 from New England's 39-yard line and closing in on field goal range. Bruschi closed in on Colts' running back Dominic Rhodes, who had just hauled in a screen pass, and stripped the ball away to thwart a scoring threat on Indianapolis' longest drive of the first half. Bruschi and the New England defense allowed the Colts 22:17 of ball possession and limited NFL MVP Peyton Manning to a 69.3 passer rating -- his lowest since last season's AFC Championship Game when the Patriots limited him to a 35.5 mark. Just 14 days earlier he won the same honors against San Francisco on January 2nd. This is the fifth-career Player of the Week Award for Bruschi, his third this season (Weeks 4 and 17). Dillon posted three 100-yard rushing performances in his team’s final five games and totaled no less than 88 yards rushing in his other two outings. His 116 rushing yards and touchdown on only 14 carries in a Week 17 victory against San Francisco was his ninth 100-yard game of the season to tie a franchise record and also earned him a club-record and career-high 1,635 yards rushing for the season. On the year, the 6-1, 225-pound back tied his career-high in touchdowns (13) and also tied the third-greatest single-season touchdown output by a Patriots player. Corey Dillon rushed for 102 yards on 12 carries in the season finale against the 49ers, tying the franchise mark of 100-yard rushing games in a season set by Curtis Martin in 1995. It was the 37th career 100-yard game for Dillon, who also extended his career-high rushing total this season to 1,621 yards. Dillon became the first player in franchise history to reach the 1,600-yard plateau. It was a rough start in the first half with Bethel Johnson, returned his first attempt after the 49ers opening drive in the first quarter for an 86-yard touchdown, only to see the return called back on an illegal blocking penalty. Earthwind Moreland was called for a block in the back and the play came back to the Patriots 7 where they had to start first and 10. New England began the game with a series of mistakes and two interceptions and the 49ers led with 7 points in the first quarter. Once the Pats turned it around in the second quarter, they never looked back and kept the lead to the end. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady rebounded from one of his worst performances of the season last week with a solid day against the Jets, completing 21-of-32 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns. Linebacker Tedy Bruschi ended New York's first drive of the game with his third interception of the season. Bruschi and linebacker Ted Johnson tied for the team-lead with four tackles each. Wide receiver David Givens was back in the starting lineup for the Patriots, and his impact was certainly felt. Green, Mike Vrabel and Rosevelt Colvin each recorded sacks for the Patriots. Week #15, It looked like it was going to be a typically hard-earned victory for the Patriots -- until they started making un-Patriot-like mistakes. Leading 28-23, Tom Brady was intercepted on an ill-advised pass under pressure deep in New England territory, which led to a Miami touchdown moments later. Brady was intercepted moments later on another desperate pass, and the Patriots walked off the field with a stunning 29-28 defeat. "That's a situation we're usually pretty good in," coach Bill Belichick said. "We weren't tonight." New England trailed 17-14 in the third quarter, but Brady threw touchdown passes to Corey Dillon in the third quarter and to Daniel Graham with 3:59 left in the game to give the Patriots a 28-17 lead. Brady passed for 171 yards and three touchdowns but was intercepted four times. The Patriots (12-2) are one game behind Pittsburgh for the top seed in the AFC, and must play a road game Dec. 26 against the Jets (10-4).Historically Miami has been one of the toughest places for New England to win. In week #14, The Pats successfully defend their divisional title with a win over Cincinnatti. New England needed every bit of Tom Brady's 260 yards passing and Corey Dillon's 88 yards rushing to offset the Bengals high-powered offense. Patriots running back Corey Dillon spent the first seven years of his career playing for the Bengals and in that time came to own or share 18 different Bengals franchise records, including most rushing yards in a game (278), most rushing yards in a season (1,435 in 2000) and most rushing yards in a career (8,061). The Patriots forced three key turnovers Sunday, including two in the red zone, saving a 35-28 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Brady was good for 260 yards and 2 touchdowns on 18 of 26 passing while David Patten had 107 yards receiving with 5 catches. Asante Samuel made his presence known when he picked off Palmer of the Bengals from scrimmage. Palmer was looking to the right sideline and Houshmandzadeh but Samuel read it perfectly and took the pass 34 yards the other way for the defensive score. New England opened the second half with another scoring drive, this one going 75 yards on 11 plays. The play of the drive had to be Brady connecting with Patrick Pass from the seat of his pants. In week #13, The Patriots traveled to Cleveland on December 5th to begin the final stretch of the season with a clash against the Browns. Patriots score every which way in 42-15 rout. Bethel Johnson had a kickoff return for a touchdown on the first play of the game, Randall Gay returned a fumble and Corey Dillon had two touchdowns. In week #12, Patriots vs Ravens in a Thanksgiving Weekend clash.

In week #11, the Patriots faced another tough challenge from a formidable opponent and they passed the test once again. New England's defense came up huge in shutting down the Kansas City's top-ranked offense.
