been involved in Judo since 1966.
Bob took two Gold medals at the 2003 World Masters Judo Championships held recently in Tokyo, Japan. This is Bob's second World title, the other was in 1999. At this event, there were 903 competitors (287 from Japan). The competitors represented 38 different countries in attendance. Bob competed in the 55-59 year old heavyweight division and the Open weight division. He won all 7 of his matches by Ippon, similar to a knockout in boxing. Contrary to popular belief, there are no punches or kicks in Judo. This martial art specializes in throws, pins, chokes and arm locks. Judo has been an Olympic sport since 1964 and is the second most popular sport in the world Saturday, April 28th, the 2001 USA Judo National Masters Championships were held at the fieldhouse, Disney's Wide World of Sports, Lake Buena Vista, Florida. There were 240 athletes, ages 30-74, competing in this annual event. Included among the competitors was Bob Bridges from Rochester, Ma. Bob took 1st place, in his division defeating four opponents. This is Bob's 2nd National Masters title. He won his first title in 1998.Bob Bridges took two bronze medals at the World Masters Judo Championships held recently in Scottsdale, Ariz. More than 375 competitors from 32 countries attended the event. Bridges a Rochester resident competed in the 50-54 year old heavyweight division and the Open weight division. Bob is the current U.S. National Champion in his respective division. Contrary to popular belief, there are no punches or kicks in Judo. This martial art specializes in throws, pins, chokes and arm locks. Judo has been an Olympic sport since 1964, and is the second most popular sport in the world after soccer. The 2002 World Masters Championships will be held in Londonderry, Northern Ireland Bob's record is 18-0 in National and International Judo Masters competition.
